The ability to capture memories is something that has always drawn me to film and photography. With this piece, I wanted to explore the theme of memory decay through video tape formats. My family filmed a lot of my childhood on tape. We have boxes filled with VHS and Betamax that are each marked with dates or events. I find it so interesting that memories I have completely forgotten about are preserved on these older formats. However some of the tapes are not in great condition and it's difficult to interpret what's in the video. These memories resurface and become fuzzy. This piece aims to embody what it's like to try to recall old memories, like watching corrupted tapes and trying to put the pieces together.
