3D Studio Art - Sculpture
Life is nothing short of a gnarly experience. Many aspects of this life are uncomfortable, ugly, or gross. And while not everything can be sunshine and rainbows, I choose to see the brighter side. With sewing techniques learned from my mother, I am inspired by color and texture for the wall hanging. In addition, with the metal and woodworking skills learned from my father, I am inspired by doodles in my sketchbook for the floor piece.
My work, through the process and product, reflect two of the most special, significant, and formative relationships in my life. The wall hanging is a result of consistent work, revisiting and altering as the piece/relationship ages. The 3D form is an outcome of good intention and guessing at each step. Creating the wall hanging came naturally to me, while constructing the floor piece was a struggle. These processes of building 3D forms by hand allow me to physically manifest my thoughts, feelings, and ideas.
Most of the ugly and uncomfortable parts of existence cannot be seen or touched, whether it be a broken heart or bacteria under my shoe… But my grass is greenest if I imagine it to be so.
