2D Studio Art - Photography
As an artist, what I create revolves around the physical / mental abuse in relationships I have endure. The impact it has caused in an individual to affect future mistrust of humans. That gives me a fueling point to represent others who may have had the same fate in my photographs. “Reel Within my Head” reflects my past abusive relationship and how it has affected my current inner self. Memories are moments that will rewrite themselves within our minds. Some are beautiful, while other are not so much. Sometimes those memories are what creates us as human and what makes us whole or shatter us into pieces. Our memories tell stories of our inner being. Each photograph presents a joyful moment that is no longer present but replaced with emptiness left behind.
The series is meant to convey a relationship that once stood and now is empty. It stands as a memory of the past and how it influences the individuals within that realm. My work is greatly influenced by Nan Goldin’s The Ballad of Sexual Dependency. Goldin captures the intimate moments of love and loss while recording details of her own experiences around her. She captures an event in an emotional and cinematic way. Her photographic stills gives the audience reality and questioning within the frame which I am heavily influence at. My intentions are to capture a significant moment and allow my audience to indulge the image. It is meant to question morals, reality, emotions, and treatment.
