2D Studio Art- Photography
When thinking about my photography, and re-examining it, I have begun to recognize the common themes and characteristic that seem to repeat themselves in the work that I am most drawn to. My photography is drawn to strong shadows that seem to split the colors in half, or, conversely, light that blind the photograph to half of the image. It is drawn to interesting angles, giving the viewer the ability to see things or places from viewpoints that we generally do not think to look at them with. It is also drawn to the camera’s inherent ability to freeze time. Cameras have the unique ability to see a moment and hold onto it forever. Whether that be a building that may not be there tomorrow, or friends that may not be there tomorrow.
My capstone project, entitled “This Too Shall Pass” focuses on a phrase that has always resonated and guided me. People tend to use this phrase as a reminder that no matter what hard times they may be facing, it is a temporary state. I have always thought of it as a reminder of that, but also that the good times do not last forever either so I have to enjoy them while they are happening. The photos in my capstone show both the stressful times and the best times that I will forever remember.
