Growing up, I would go over to my grandparents’ house almost every weekend. Besides my brother, they were my best friends growing up. We spent more time together than I did with kids my age. My grandfather, Pat, would cook steak while my grandma would cook corn, potatoes, and other fixings on the stove. After dinner, we would all snuggle up on the couch and watch a movie. After my grandma passed away, the house sold, and I grew up. As I look back on that time of my life, I realize that this is where my love of animation and film started. Watching movies on the couch with my two best friends.

For my exhibition, I have created miniature sets for an animation that I have created called “Frog Man”. I have also included a found-footage film of 1950’s horror films that I have collected and compiled together. The viewer can watch these films from a pink chair in a mockliving room set up that mirrors my grandparent’s lake house. For my final project, I wanted to create a mix of my two passions, building and drawing. When I was younger my brother, Haydn, and I would spend hours building Legos, Lincoln Logs, and mud houses. I chose to create a horror film because horror has always been one of my favorite genres. Partially because I like the adrenaline rush that you get while watching but mostly because I wasn’t allowed to watch them as a young adult. My mom wanted to keep me away from the horrors of cinema, but little did she know, I was obsessed. Over the past couple of years, certain situations have had me questioning what “home” really means. I felt like I couldn’t find it anywhere and I was constantly searching for it. However, I’ve come to realize that “home” lives inside of me, it lives in my memories and moves through me in many ways.
