“The only way to support the next generation of children is by recognizing our creative capacities for the richness they are and seeing our children for the hope that they are. And our task is to educate their whole being, so they can face this future. By the way -- we may not see this future, but they will. And our job is to help them make something of it.”
-Sir Ted Robinson
Process (noun): a series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end
Technique (noun): a way of carrying out a particular task, especially the execution or performance of an artistic work or a scientific procedure
Craftsmanship (noun): the quality of design and work shown in something made by hand; artistry
These three words are used so often within many disciplines. These three words are some of the tools to evaluate artwork: even in some descriptive context they are employed or even used prior to the assessment of creative concepts. Some of us even choose higher education to understand the process behind our media with the intent to refine our techniques and polish our craftsmanship. Everything is in the details of the work and there is joy in knowing there is always an intent to continue the conversation between the viewer and artist. I find this act of making a courageous pursuit, oftentimes one that is a difficult path to travel on, but this road of the creative process is one that I care so deeply about. Myself, as an upcoming K-12 Art Educator, I hope to influence positive change in as many individuals as I can. To encourage growth, to support belief in oneself and abilities and to act as a guide to instill self-value. I have made it my professional goal during my time in college to become proficient in as many media as possible so that I may pass my knowledge, skill, and craftsmanship down to subsequent new artists; To foster a sense of creativity within them that I find within myself. I think of myself as a lifelong learner and know that I am still learning and will continue to acquire those skills for the rest of my life and professional career.
